Fun list. Google Glass was not a great user experience. The value was minimal and the price was too high. I agree on Quantum Computing - Million dollar solution for a five dollar problem.
Scott, I don't have predictions so much as questions.
1. Will Apple begin to move away from privacy as it incorporates Gemini into Siri?
2. Will the backlash against AI grow, stagnate, or fizzle entirely?
3. How big an issue will AI addiction and psychosis become?
4. How big an issue will AI misuse by children become?
5. How will we react when autonomous weapons are rolled out and used on the massive scale that the US and China are planning and implementing?
6. Will the bad behavior of people using smartglasses for harassment, sexual humiliation, etc., trigger widespread attacks on people wearing them as happened with the glassholes?
7. How far will humanoid robots progress this year? How will we react?
8. Can anyone build a printer that works smoothly 99.9% of the time or will they continue to be a constant hassle regardless of who makes them?
"How big an issue will AI addiction and psychosis become?" I think this will become more of an issue, but I also see that that AI will become a major tool for political manipulation (working on a post on that for next week).
Re humanoid robots, I think they are stupid. Too many parts to break. Much easier to build general purpose robots.
re printers, remember those old thermal printers in Ellis? Seems like they worked for several decades ;)
Brilliant. I have no idea if your predictions are on target, but I learned so much from your supporting information that helped me understand the landscape, I think you must be right. To counter that, I'll read the other prediction you provide to calm down. 🙂 Thanks again for an education I needed but didn't know I needed.
Scott, just finished the General Magic video. I lived that history but didn't realize it. First PC was a Mac, and I bought the iPhone as soon as I could. That was an amazing eye-opener. I had never heard of General Magic. Wow.
I'm sending a copy of your League of Women Voters presentation to Jerri Green, who is running for Governor of TN. She is very dynamic. I hope she subscribes to your Substack.
Interesting, I had not heard of her. I just signed up for her email list, I am happy to help (financially and with any tech information/advice).

You know I wasn’t expecting the printer prediction, but fingers crossed!! 😂

Thanks Sheila, and if you have not watched the linked General Magic Doc, you should check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQymn5flcek

Yes, that, and all other links, are on my list to return to for more "learning". Thanks, Scott. I appreciate the information you share.
