A new format for The Free-Range Technologist.
Instead of providing a list of all my recent recommendations, going forward I'll dive deeply into one issue for a month (or two, depending on the issue). (You can always see my latest book, video and tech recommendations on my website.)
I will look at Central Bank Digitial Currencies this month and in January and Febuary at Starlink and Planetary-Scale Internet Service Providers. If you don't know what these are, don't worry. I'll write each post for a non-technical but intelligent audience.
One of the great joys of writing this newsletter is getting your email replies filled with great comments and ideas. It seems a shame to keep those to myself, so I am adding the Free-Range Technologist subscriber chat💬. This conversation space is found in the Substack app and is like a group chat or live hangout. We'll use it to discuss the most recent post and updates that come my way. And you can jump into the discussion with your hot takes, questions, and comments. You can still comment on posts, but this allows for more interaction with other readers.
Since it is the end of the year, let's start the conversation by looking back at last year's technology news and asking:
What was a trend that will have a lasting impact on our lives? Verses that was just trendy and ephemeral?
Join in now if you have the substack app, instructions are below.
How to Join the Subscriber Chat
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started with Chat
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to add your comments, questions or new topics! If you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
